CAREER
1983 - 1986
I started my career an auditor’s firm, Brink, Roos and Du Toit in Welkom as an audit clerk and was
promoted in 1985 to Senior Audit Clerk. By the end of 1985 I completed my articles. I was then
asked to start a new office for Brink, Roos and Du Toit in Ficksburg.
1987 to June 1988
I had to establish an office from scratch. The only customer I had was Sentra Oes Crop Insurance.
When I left at the end of June 1988, the office had 60 customers varying from farmers to small
businesses on its books.
July 1988 to February 2002
I started with Eskom in Pietermaritzburg. I initially started of as the Management Accountant for
two years, mainly accountable for preparing budgets, monthly variance reporting and costing. In
1990 I was promoted to the Regional Management Team, accountable for Business Planning and
Information Technology Departments. My main tasks were managing people and setting strategic
direction for the Region with inputs from other departments. In 1992 I was appointed as the
Customer Services Manager, where the main accountabilities were pricing, customer supply
contracts, sales and revenue forecasting, office management and the establishing of Customer
Service standards to be followed by the districts. I trained the regions staff in customer service
attitudes and service standards. In 1996 I was mainly involved at Head Office( Meggawatt Park) as
part of the team accountable for redesigning Eskom’s Customer Service Processes that they are
currently using throughout Eskom. In 1997 I was appointed as the Regional Revenue Protection
Manger for Kwa Zulu Natal Region. My main areas of accountability were prepayment meter
audits, conventional meter audits, replacement of faulty meters and removal of tampered meters,
revenue loss management, feeder balancing and customer data quality. I also managed various
projects from proprietary meter replacements, GPS co-ordinate collection for customers and pole
numbering pilots.
March 2002 – August 2007
I joined the Netgroup, a Consulting Engineering Company in Pretoria. I was the manager of one of
the companies, Botsebi Engineering Services. We had to tender for government and municipal
contracts to perform any electrical work. Our main focus was project management September
2007 to February 2016
A black partner and myself bought Botsebi Engineering from the Netgroup. We worked mainly on
revenue protection contracts for the municipalities. These contracts ranged in the finance sector of
the municipalities in areas like revenue enhancement, cost of supply studies, credit control, debtor
management, prepaid management, policies, procedures and bylaws, financial management and
management accounting, reporting and management information to base decisions on., asset
management, data management, reading and billing process evaluation and improvement and
lastly I was involved in revenue realisation opportunities for metros and smaller municipalities to
survive in the current economic climate. Botsebi managed the prepaid customers of Emfuleni
Municipality for 13 years. This contract included 1 st line maintenance to the pole top, meter
replacements, meter audits, meter removals, tamper notices and disconnections. The revenue in
the time of the contract improved form a small amount to monthly banking over R 5 mil. The
meters that purchased improved from 40% to 95%.
October 2013 to current date
At SDS we were involved in a revenue enhancement project for Anglo America, project lead by the
DBSA for Rustenburg, Thabazimbi and Mogalakwena Municipalities. SDS also provided Nelson
Mandela Bay Municipality with a Revenue Realisation Framework. We prepared a proposed
Industrial Tariff for Madibeng Municipality. We have assisted Madibeng Municipality with a Tariff
dispute. SDS is currently doing the Cost of Supply study for Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality and
assisting them with the tariff application for the 2020/2021 financial year.
