I worked remotely from my home in the Netherlands, editing Mystery Shopping reports online. I worked on a variety of projects, reading and correcting the written English in the reports, and checking that a particular (required) scenario had been followed. Many of them were submitted globally and had been written by non-native English speakers. I would also on occasion listen to recordings of calls and visits to check what had been entered in the reports. I would be sent a request for my editing services, which outlined the project, and I would confirm my participation. Then all reports were managed and submitted online through the company’s computer system. All work was undertaken pro-actively, checking and reviewing submitted report within the defined turn around time to keep to deadlines. This could mean working at all times (evenings and weekends), so flexibility was required. Interaction with the staff in the office, in particular the Senior Editor who was the focal point for all Freelance editors working reports, was via email or telephone/Skype, with occasional Editor meetings a few times a year.
