About

As a Co-Founder at AlienAdv.com I contributed the following:

Marketing:

  • Grew monthly GMV at almost 100% for 5 months, reaching a high of US$ 190k after 5 months. Stable at US$ 150k since then.
  • Profitable from very early on, with net revenue being between US$ 5k to US$ 10k each month
  • Developed a scientific way to collect keywords and generate content on them. Saw 50% month on month growth of unique organic visitors from google search

Web Development:

  • Built alienadv.com, an adventure travel marketplace, from scratch with just 1 developer, using angularjs and django platform
  • Website is completely mobile friendly, with large focus on page load time optimization
  • Fully functional marketplace model
  • Setup analytics, heatmaps, payment gateway, etc

Automation & Scaling-up:

  • Built a custom CRM to automate first level "dynamic" email responses and "dynamic" follow up emails. At our present scale, this automation reduced the workload that would easily occupy 2-3 people daily. At a larger scale this would save 100s of headcounts and make the concerned process timely and flawless
  • Automated social media reach out by scripting. Got over 1000 entries for a photo contest in 1 week without spending any money

I have hands on experience in building, testing and evolving an online marketplace in a lean and fast manner which provides me a technical knowhow to understand the workings of SEO, SEM and social marketing. At AlienAdv.com I designed the architecture of the platform, ensured that the website was mobile responsive, quick to load and secure, considered SEO aspects of each page and planned to deliver personalized data based on a visitor's usage pattern.

We tried almost all that falls under the umbrella of online marketing - SEM, SEO, reach out (automated via scripting) to specific users on networks like LinkedIn and Instagram, setting up social media campaigns, email marketing, blogging etc. Through experimentation we ascertained what worked and what did not and focused on channels that gave us the highest ROI and low cost of customer acquisition. Automation was done wherever possible, resulting in faster work and better utilization of our limited resources.

I believe online marketing for products or websites follows largely similar paths with launch pads and potholes as it develops. The most important part is to understand the ROIs and reach of respective channels and where the customers “hangout” online. Roles concerning online marketing and its management are right down my alley.
