PRAMOD MATHUR has devoted over 40 years to media & communication. Extensive travel to the remotest parts of the country has imbued his work with sensitivity to crucial national issues. And helped evolve a style of documentary presentation which is candid, true, non-intrusive and close to grass-root reality.

After undergoing a post-graduate course in journalism, Pramod Mathur's career began with hard-core exposure under Visnews(now Reuters). He traveled for six long weeks in the midst of the Bangladesh war and its aftermath. It was an experience that shaped his attitude towards capturing humanity on film and video.

The early years were devoted to news and featureson a wide spectrum of issues --- politics, development, science and culture. During this period, he also participated in establishing the Dateline School of Journalism in New Delhi, which was the stepping-stone for many well-known journalists of today.

Later, it has been a long journey in the world of documentaries -- from the time he made a 70-mt 35 mm film on the status of the tribes of Gujarat in western India (“The Tenth Man” - 1984)...moving on to other films like on the transhumance cycle of Himalayan shepherds (“End Of The Trail” – 1988), the Reservation policy based on caste (“The White Lie” -1990), the environmentally-conscious Bishnoi community (”The Bishnois” - 1991), climate change and India (“Break Point” - 1992), the Family Planning Programme of India (“Checkmate” -1993), the lover-god Krishna (“The Divine Lover” 1995), the Indian medical science (“Ayurveda” - 1995), the Himalayan Chipko movement to save trees (“On The Fence” - 1997), the Ganga river (“Gift Of The Goddess” – 2001), the remote world of the Idu Mishmi tribe in North-east India (“The Idu of Dibang” - 2002), an intimate view of people living with HIV in northeast India (“Are You With Me?” - 2007) and South India (“Little Tales from India” – 2011).

Over the years, Pramod Mathur has been associated in various capacities of Field Producer, Director and Director of Cinematography with premier international organizations. Like ZDF, Tellux, Transtel-Germany, UNEP-Switzerland, Columbia Pictures Television Division, TV Division of National Geographic Society-USA.
