temas estrella, Billie Jean. "Las notas no mienten, amigo. Era tan maquiavélico como se
pueda llegar a ser. Avaricioso, amigo, avaricioso".
Nowadays, no-holds-barred interviews are very uncommon. Quincy Jones’ interview with
Vulture is a great example of this rarity, and is arguably one of the most loaded interviews
of recent times - a light-hearted, but brutal conversation, where the legendary American
music producer takes no prisoners.
Jones, who is about to turn 85 years old, and is gearing up for the launch of his new
streaming service, Qwest TV, told his stories from the living room of his Bel-Air home.
For starters, he addressed musical idol par excellence, Michael Jackson, the renowned king
of Pop, who he worked with on some of his highest-ranking albums, but who he now
describes harshly. “I hate talking about this publicly, but Michael stole a lot of things,” he
said, including a part of the song “State of Independence” by Donna Summer, for one of his
hit singles, “Billie Jean”. “The notes don’t lie, man. He was as Machiavellian as they come.
Greedy, man. Greedy.”
Jones also spoke about the singer’s constant cycle of undergoing cosmetic plastic surgery,
which was always justified by “some kind of sickness that he said he had.” But Jones was
not convinced. He added that Jackson’s obsession with his appearance was fueled by his
father’s negativity. “He told him that he was ugly, and he abused him.”
