BACKGROUND
I have had an expansive career in the arts as both a practitioner and a teacher.
I have worked both in theatre and contemporary performance as a technician,
designer, director, writer and performer. I originally trained in fine arts before moving
to performance design.
ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor of Fine Arts, Education from City Art Institute, (now the College of Fine Arts,
UNSW)
Master of Design from the University of Technology, Sydney
Bachelor of Interior Architecture, Victoria University, Wellington, New Zealand
PERFORMANCE DESIGN
I was the Performance Designer for the School of English, Media and Performing
Arts, University of NSW, from 1995 - 2007.
As the resident Performance Designer for the school, my work supported the
teaching practices within the school, often participating directly in the teaching of
many of the school’s theoretical and practical courses.
My work specifically supported the performance making practices within the school
through contributing to the development of learning pedagogies in the fields of
design, dramaturgy, performance design research and collaborative production.
I served as one of the primary mentors and advisors for students on the design and
performance elements in their practical work. Students benefited enormously from
opportunities to have one on one consultation about their work.
TRANSFERABLE SKILLS
Some the most important transferable skills I take from my work as a performance
designer are the more intangible ‘people skills’ essential to the creation of a
collaborative production. Work is more than getting something accomplished; it’s how
we get it accomplished.
Many of the practical skills I honed while employed by the School of English, Media
and Performing Arts, UNSW are transferable to other creative and organizational
fields.
GRAPHIC DESIGN
At UNSW I was responsible for the design of promotional material, both printed and
digital, for all school performances, presentations, events, open days and courses
and careers days contributing significantly to the marketing of courses in the School
and Faculty.

FINAL STATEMENT
My experience as a performance designer has given me the ability to juggle projects
and never miss a deadline. I’ve learnt to budget my time and my assets, and most
importantly, I’ve learnt to be flexible and to get things done.
My broad experience in design, my ability to critically analyze both written and visual
documentation and my commitment to continually developing my skills allows me to
capitalize on the experience I have had at the same time seizing the opportunities to
learn when I can.
I have a strong commitment to a diverse working environment and to serving the
needs of a large and diverse community.
