Adam Gillogley Mari

I’m Adam. I’m a freelance writer currently based in The Hague. For the last few years I’ve been working mostly as a technology writer, doing my best to translate the ideas and writings of scientists, designers, architects and other genius-level illiterates into English that regular people can understand. Prior to that, I’ve years of experience writing in all formats for the business and academic markets. Mostly I write for business to business markets, predominately web-based since the pandemic. Prior to that a lot of my work came from providing publicity copy for conferences as well as in-house communications.

If I had to describe my strengths as a writer, I’d say that number one is that I’m fast and accurate. When I sit down to the keyboard I write more quickly than anyone I know. I’m also surprisingly serious about what I do. No matter how light-heartedly I write, or how seemingly unimportant the material, I take accuracy and proofreading very seriously. I get genuinely upset to find technical errors in my work. In general, I see myself as a craftsman rather than an artist, and I prefer to leave my ego at home when I work. The best writing is the work that the client loves, not the stuff that makes me look smart. I’m a strong interviewer, and I’ve a knack for distilling the essentials of what people say to serve the needs of the story.

I’m always looking to improve my skills. Often the best way to do that is to listen while someone else tells me why I’m an idiot. In a nice way, of course. I genuinely enjoy the critical process and notes from my peers. On the other hand, I’m not afraid to cause a ruckus in an argument about an Oxford comma.
