While I may not have “traditional” customer service experience (outside of a brief stint in retail in my high school years), I argue that Tourism has its roots in Customer Service just as much or in fact more. Every day I provide a desired service for many people from around the world. A huge part of the job is reading the guest and determining how I make my approach from there. I constantly bend over backwards to help guests understand, make them feel more comfortable in a new place, and to make their day.
Additionally, I will personally guarantee you that I am the fastest learner you will ever meet. I would not say something like that without being able to back it up. I completed the two month rigorous training program to be a Chicago Tour Guide in exactly three weeks (twice as fast as the other new hires having moved there one day before I began my training and being the only non-local). Using my quick memorization and improvisational skills I have crafted with a background in Theater I was able to begin working in record time.
