RMB FOUNDeRY (Johannesburg) - Business Analyst
FOUNDeRY is the research and development unit for Rand Merchant Bank – aiming
to innovate and disrupt within the Investment Banking Industry. Focused on blockchain
technology, data science, artificial intelligence, systems infrastructure and experience design.
I worked as a business analyst on a machine-learning based fraud detection system which
identified anomalous behaviour within the bank’s transactions and reported those to the team
who could then investigate. Our solution reduced the amount of human intervention by 70% and
reduced false positives by 90%.
My role included product design, business case development, market research and project
management – forming the link between the Investment Bank itself, the software developers and
the data scientists.

Selected as one of 15 young leaders from around the world to attend a doathon in Berlin,
Germany focused around the future of work.
During the doathon we debated and discussed various ideas surrounding the impact that
automation and artificial intelligence is going to have on the workplace and society as a whole.
Brightest Young Minds (BYM) - Delegate
Selected as one of 100 young delegates from 14 African countries to attend the 2016 BYM
Summit and join the alumni network of Brightest Young Minds.
During the summit we debated and workshopped various possible solutions for social problems
facing the continent. Some of these problems included education, poverty, agriculture, job
creation, health and many more.
At the end of the summit we competed to present one of our solutions to a panel of judges. Our
solution was voted into 3rd place and as a result we had the opportunity to pitch our idea to
government in Pretoria. I stepped away from the project to focus on completing my CA but
through some of my fellow group members, the solution is currently being implemented.
