About

My journey as a web developer started when I joined a 2-year software entrepreneurship program in 2014 at the Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology (http://meltwater.org/) after which I joined two other co-founders to create a startup called AdGeek.

AdGeek helped eCommerce businesses automate their retargeting ads. AdGeek was acquired by https://www.linkedin.com/company/kudobuzz/ in December 2017. My love for software development has since grown after seeing how we empowered small scale businesses to grow through our software applications. Now my desire is to work in a startup/company solving real-world problems.

I am a strong believer of, “talent is everywhere but the opportunity is not” and that is why I am grateful to technology for providing the means to access opportunities within and beyond the shores of Africa. I believe joining your company will give me the opportunity to work on new challenges to help me grow as a developer.

One of my greatest qualities is the ability to learn new things quickly. This quality has played a crucial role in my 3-year journey as a web developer. I am a big believer in continuous self-development, hence I never stop learning (https://github.com/benkissi/Learning-Roadmap/blob/master/README.md). I am kind of a JavaScript junky, I love to test and use JavaScript technologies to build real-world applications.

I have experience with React Js, Redux, React Native, Vue Js, Svelte, Node Js, and Mongo DB. Although these are my favorite technologies, I can always learn and adapt to any language/technology. My favorite programming book is “You don’t know JS” by Kyle Simpson.

My development/programming style involves writing automated tests (TDD) before or after writing code but definitely before shipping/deployment. I make use of design patterns whenever possible and also iterate my code using benchmark techniques until I arrive at a more optimal (memory/performance friendly) solution.

Before becoming a web developer I was a graphic designer, this has helped me develop my skill in UI/UX design. My UI/UX skills coupled with my programming skills enables me to create applications that are robust and elegant. See links to my design work below.

I am a passionate, driven individual and a team player. I am a self-starter and I am motivated by challenges because I believe challenges today only make me a better developer tomorrow. Through hard work and dedication, I will contribute my part to help your company achieve its goals and objectives. I am confident that I will be a great addition to your team and I can’t wait to make my first contribution.
