Brittany Kampfer

Graduated from Duke University in May 2020 with a BS in Biological Sciences and Minors in Chemistry and History with an emphasis on medicine. Through my 4 years of being a member of the CAPE Program at Duke, I volunteered at the Brain Tumor Center at the Duke Hospital and collaborated with the doctors, PAs, and nurses to aid in the wellbeing and livelihood of patients with newly diagnosed/recurring glioblastoma brain tumors. Time and time again, I went into the hospital looking forward to learning something new in the time I spent there. I came out a more humbled and educated person, with an enthusiastic outlook in medicine. Within the Biology department at Duke, 7 of my upper level Biology classes focused on research and analyzing data in various subjects (environmental, human, and microbial ecology, entomology, sensory biology, etc.); therefore, I am a well-rounded individual in the Biology field and understand how to interpret various data. Further, I know how to make Pivot Tables and use excel functions within Microsoft Excel. On top of carrying a pre-medical course load, I have been a dedicated team member on the Varsity Swim and Dive team at Duke, where I dedicated 20+ hours a week to improving myself and the program for the past 4 years. I was on the Academic Honor Roll in 2018-19 and 2019-20, was a 3-time member on the ACC conference team, and solidified traits I acquired through my 18-year experience with swimming. These qualities include working well independently as well as in a team environment, a sense of personal responsibility, and strong time management and organizational skills.
