I started mixing in 2001.
Although I'm a well-rounded musician (produce, play guitar, drums, sing, compose) my specialty is mixing. I routinely work with 40-80 tracks of audio taking it from demo to album quality.
The most impressive thing I've done to date was mix and co-produce an LP called Amour Bohemian. It was an immense project featuring contributions from 65 different artists, including the 30-piece Prague FILMharmonic, who has collaborated with everyone from Werner Herzog & Quentin Tarantino to the Arcade Fire, Joanna Newsom, and Adele. Members of The Growlers & The Blank Tapes are also featured on the album, which Oh Sees' John Dwyer is already calling "a masterpiece."
I have a process I follow to ensure good outcomes. I talk to the artist about the current mix. What do they like? what don't they like? What direction do they want to go in? I ask for reference mixes both of the songs and other comparable material. I make a quick mix to ensure we are on the same page. Then I start mixing.
