I’m passionate about writing code. Development is more than a job, it’s a way of life.

Swift is an excellent language in my opinion. I think it’s use will lead to better and safer apps and I find it a pleasure to write. My previous position at FieldForce, which I held for over five years, involved lots of Objective C. It’s a language with which I’m very familiar. Having just uploaded my first app to the app store, a code cracking game called SuperCrack! written completely in Swift, I can say that I found moving from Objective C to Swift painless.

Currently, I’m taking some time to finish a large C++ project which began with me researching DSP and Sound Synthesis and will culminate with the release of my first virtual synthesiser, the Zeus, later this year. This project has been lots of fun and combines my passion for Music Technology with my love of Software Engineering. I’m also in the process of translating my code cracking app into Kotlin for the Android version and while iOS and Android development are very different, I love working with Android Studio and I think Kotlin is great.

I enjoy Web Development and built a simple e-commerce site at the start of 2017, idybrand.com, using Laravel, PHP on the server side and JavaScript on the front end. I have also contributed to a project while at FieldForce that uses Django and Angular JS (version 1). I think I do however prefer working with an IDE and typed languages rather than dynamically typed languages in an editor. I prefer the extra security and help that the compiler gives.

Functional Programming captured my interest back in 2015 and since then I've dabbled with Elixir and have begun to look at Haskell. I’d be keen to learn more about fp and actually if the project sounds interesting to me I’d be happy to work with any technology.

In my next position I’d like to do lots of TDD and work with highly talented Software Engineers and team members that I can learn from. I thrive on challenging problems, am conscientious, a fast learner, highly organised and motivated. I hope to work in a dynamic, forward thinking company where cooperation and teamwork are highly valued.
