I completed my degree in human biosciences at Plymouth University, I am an experienced laboratory researcher specialising in exercise, infection, immunity and disease. I possess in-depth understanding of the immune system and the role of exercise in the development and management of chronic disease. Outside academia, I have experience in the education and entertainment industries, having gained organisational skills as a historical interpreter at Arrière-ban Historical Enterprises. Away from university and the workplace, I am a keen runner having competed for my county at national level and achieving podium finishes in trail and road races in France. I am now looking for a new and challenging position, one which will make best use of my existing skills and experiences and further my career development. EDUCATION - Plymouth University, Bsc (Hons) Human Biosciences (2:2) • Enhanced analysis and research skills by writing a 10,000 word dissertation titled ‘Determinants of Tuberculosis Transmission in Indigenous People of Amazonia’. This study highlighted the urgent need to review and strengthen control strategies directed at indigenous people of the Amazon Rainforest. • Developed oral and visual presentation skills by delivering a presentation on my research topic at a conference and subsequently answering questions. • Enjoyed the opportunity to broaden my knowledge of other disciplines of biology. Summer 2012 Volunteer Turtle Conservation, Kefalonia (Greece) • Communicated effectively with people from diverse backgrounds via raising awareness and informing locals and tourists about turtle conservation on the island of Kefalonia. • Patrolled beaches from before midnight to dawn and tactfully ask anyone we encountered if they would stay away from known areas of the beach with turtle activity. • Worked in a team under difficult terrain and weather conditions to record turtle activity on remote parts of the island. • Worked alone in a turtle conversation museum answering any enquiries from the public in relation to turtle conservation and our work. - Volunteer Service Crew at Frylands Wood Scout Camp • Volunteering during holidays and weekends whilst at school. • Duties included helping organise activities such as archery and go-karting, cleaning accommodation and general maintenance of the site. • Assisting the store manager in the running of a retail shop.
