RESEARCH EXPERIENCE
- 2017 - 2018 - Biopharming Research Unit (BRU) in the Molecular and Cell Biology Department at the University of Cape Town: Honours research project – “expressing chikungunya virus (CHIKV) envelope glycoprotein E2 gene variants in tobacco plants for use as a diagnostic reagent” – have upgraded it to a Masters research project (2018) and have included the production of CHIKV virus-like particles (VLPs) in tobacco plants for the development of a candidate vaccine.
-2018 – 2019 – Cloning strategy formulation and cloning for Dr Maria Cecilia in the Plant Stress Lab in the Molecular and Cell Biology Department at the University of Cape Town: cloned LEA proteins into a synthesized construct to study phase separation of the LEA proteins under salt stress using an E. coli expression system.
