About

During my career I have been fortunate enough to witness a number of technological advances that have changed the world as we know it. These experiences go right back to the early 1990’s when networking, Windows (GUI), Internet (remember dial-up modems?) , eMail, Laptops, PDA’s (who can forget Palm Pilot), CellPhones, Smartphones, Self-Service Banking, Facebook, Netflix and many more.

But I certainly believe I been most fortunate to be part of the OpenSource revolution (Thanks Linus!). In 1990 I did my first Admin course for Xenix (before Santa Cruz Organisation released SCO UNIX). I wonder if anyone would have gambled on the reach that Unix/Linux has achieved today?

I am, by nature, a natural net-worker. I believe I get most of my work done because I know people who know people and am not afraid to collaborate and not necessarily get all the glory when the job is done. I am massively committed to SaFe, I see it is the ideal framework for organizations wanting to reduce IT waste (I doubt it can ever be eliminated), improve time to market and gain all the quality benefits of sprint based delivery.

I have worked for the last few years as Systems Engineer and Release Train Engineer at Standard Bank Africa Regions. I have certified as an Agilist.

I am a veteran Project Manager, having been in the IT Project space since 1990. I have a varied CV from Large Scale Rollouts of Bank Tellers and Terminals to Implementation of large Project Offices for Global Companies. My travels include 3 year stint in east Africa - based in Nairobi - as Regional Operations Managers (read Special Projects) for Telco Towers and Fibre Implementations.

I find myself wanting to look into other markets with project management requirements. I am interested in project management in other areas such as Education, the Retail and FMCG areas. I suspect that just as with IT projects PM’s in this space are expected to become leaner and leaner. Do more with less …..

Having spent the last few years rolling out Internet Banking into Africa I have become a big advocate of virtual and distributed workforces. I have spent time overcoming many of the barriers including cultural, language, timezones and more. I have been working with teams from india, RSA, Belarus, Ghana, Uganda, Botswana, Kenya, Tanzania and Namibia.

I have always been a passionate writer and started my blog in Nov 2017 http://www.grumpybutiknowthings.com/
