Overall, I am an English professor looking to either switch careers or to simply make some extra cash. I have a Master's Degree in English and I've taught at three different community colleges for the last five years and have experience with both formal and/or academic writing and informal writing of all kinds. My history of grading college-level essays and research alike showcases my ability to adhere to deadlines and standards (CA state outcomes have to be defended via instruction) as well as my mastery of the written word. I also have taught multiple, online-only college courses thus having a history of online editing functions and teaching systems.
Initially, my love of language analysis is why I went on to get my Master's Degree in English. I have always had an appreciation for literature and non-fiction and have had some various short fiction published as well. In line with my own ethos, I have also volunteered in a number of programs and events such as teaching writing classes and other community-based outreach. In general, my love of English was the catalyst that lead to my continued experience with writing and communication in becoming a college professor.
In becoming a professor, however, I had to further master my grasp of grammar, mechanics, and editing in order to provide adequate instruction at the college-level. So, after honing my writing skills as a student, I then had to improve enough so I could grade and critique other students. And though my love of writing was ingrained, my first year as a professor was a learning experience. However, after the hurtles of dangling modifiers and improper verb tenses, I can safely say that I am more-than confident in my abilities to edit and communicate the written word. After all, I am certain that you, invested reader, can imagine what grading over 5,000 student-essays can do for one's reading and writing application.
In summary, as result of my education and teaching career, not only have my writing skills improved vastly since my days as a college student, but my editing prowess, my reading and typing abilities, and my abilities to organize and take on responsibilities have been proven and tested as a five-year professor. I also am well-organized, online savvy and can execute deadlines, take on responsibilities, and manage online communication and instruction.
