Sandeep Shankar Murugesan

I am a social science researcher-cum-data scientist, whose research interests include development economics and education policy. I have conducted a study to understand whether the medium of instruction has an impact on children's learning outcomes in India, for which I used a quasi-experimental method called Propensity Score Matching to answer my research question. I have experience in survey design, data collection, cleaning data for statistical analysis using R, SAS, SPSS and STATA and gathering literature review. This experience allowed me to gain critical insights into research design and introduced me to the various methodologies used in the social sciences.

In addition to my research experience, I have three years of working experience in the software consulting industry. I have designed complex software applications, both server-side and client-side. I have regularly interacted with clients across various continents starting from requirement gathering till application maintenance phase. I have also had an opportunity to lead a team and coordinate activities on technical areas including web service interface, product management, and ERP integration.

Besides enhancing my ability to work in a fast paced work environment and making me adept at learning new technologies, my experience in this industry improved my leadership, communication, and critical decision-making abilities.

My qualifications as a quantitative researcher and a software developer give me a unique interdisciplinary perspective. I look for adroit and innovate ways to solve a problem, and I enjoy discussing new ideas with people from diverse backgrounds.
