Experience
Editor-in-Chief, Marketing Magazine at Rogers Media
November 2015 - Present (1 year 1 month)
Editorial direction for one of Canada's oldest business-to-business publications, helping advertising, public
relations and other media professionals as they evolve from traditional brand-building approaches to true
omni-channel, customer-centric strategies. Achievements include:
• Hands-on writing and editing for a newsletter product dedicated to C-Suite executives, turning what was
once a catch-all for wire copy and reprinted stories into one focused on original material which frequently
landed among the top stories in terms of weekly traffic to our site.
• Launch of pre-and post-event editorial packages that provided a way to extend the experience of attending a
conference to our audience while increasing the value of sponsorship for our clients.
• Development of a CMO conference which attracted close to double the sponsorship dollars from the
inaugural year, as well as direct recruitment of speakers from high-profile organizations such as BuzzFeed,
SoulCycle and the NHL.
• Introduction of a strategy which led to more consistent storytelling via video, including clips that generated
thousands of views on social and across other channels
• Rebranding of a technology conference and newsletter which allowed us to exceed our sponsorship goal and
serve a broader mix of adtech and marketing technology topics

"I have had the pleasure of working with Shane as a colleague from 1999 to 2001 and as his publisher from
2001 to 2010. Over the years I had a front row seat to watch Shane evolve from a talented journalist to a VP
and Editor in Chief who inspired his staff by his example. In addition to his reporting and editing expertise,
Shane has developed exceptional skills in digital and social media, public speaking and moderating. Shane's
high level of engagement within the IT community has resulted in him developing many good relationships
with vendors, CIO's and the channel. Frankly, I’m not aware of another Canadian journalist who understands
information technology and the role it plays in business, as well as Shane does."
— Joe Tersigni, managed Shane at IT World Canada
"I've done freelance work for Shane in his capacities as editor of ITBusiness.ca, then Computing Canada and

and entertaining."
— Grant Buckler, was a consultant or contractor to Shane at IT World Canada
"I have worked with Shane as a colleague, and for him as a freelancer. I don't know anyone who knows or
cares more about the IT industry, or is more dedicated to serving his readers. Throughout the many turbulent
times the IT and publishing industries have experienced, Shane's commitment to journalistic principles has
always been unwavering. He is respected far and wide for his unbelievably prolific and intelligent insights,
and his personal and professional support for his colleagues has earned him a loyal following. He's the first to
arrive and the last to leave, and even when the lights go out, he''ll still be working."
